A few weeks ago at Archon 33, I had the privilege and honor of serving on a panel about webcomics with Shawn Gaston. His comic, Clockworks, is based on a steampunk genre role-playing game campaign that uses the Savage Worlds game system.

Shawn is very talented and I am catching up in the Clockworks archives myself. The best part is that he is a fellow local St. Louis dude like myself. I look forward to getting to know him better and spending some time enjoying his creativity.

Above is a quick Smerd sketch that he did during our panel. I think it’s great! It definitely captures Smerd’s attitude.

Check out Clockworks and say “Hi” to fellow St. Louis writer Shawn Gaston.

As Labor Day weekend approaches, I am getting my kids in the pool as often as possible before it closes.

My youngest son, Ian.

More Ian…

My older son Max…..

The mermaid, Sabrina…

Here are the kids looking at a tiny toad, only about a centimeter and a half in length, that my daughter rescued from the pool. As a toad (not a frog) it probably would have drowned if my daughter hadn’t saved it.

Here is a video interview with the Heroine of Toads Everywhere!

Here are a few more captured Gen Con memories from 2009:

Cobra Commander!

The Empire starts ‘em young!

Check out these wings!

…And these claws…Rawr!

Halo!

Here is game designer Matt Duhan! Look for his new card game, Zombie Ninja Pirates in January 2010!

Here are Shane and Shane. Shane Beddingfield (guest liaison at I-con Springfield, IL) and Shane Moore (author of the Abyss Walker series). The Shanes have known each other for many years and are both great guys to sit back and have a beer with.

Here, at the same dinner are Luke Ski, filker extraordinaire and his fiancee’ Sara Trice.

Friday at Gen Con, the costumers were awesome! Here is an incredibly lifelike (can you say lifelike about an android?) Data.

Here is a girl who looked a little cold in the air conditioning:

Gen Con is also a great place to spend time with movers and shakers in the industry:

Stephen Zimmer, author of “The Exodus Gate” was at a signing at a nearby Borders bookstore and I was able to get away from my Gen Con table to visit with him. The Borders in downtown Indy is a gorgeous fusion of a modern Borders ambiance with a traditional downtown building.

Stephen is an incredible busy man. Soon after we took this picture today in Indy, he had to scoot to Louisville, KY for a film festival. He is also involved in movies and podcasting. I will be a guest on his podcast show this weekend.

Here is the Abyss Walker author Shane Moore spinning his plots for a fan.

Here is card game design genius Nathan Cormier taking a break from a hard day at Gen Con to sit down at my Smerdiverse table. He’s a dynamo con enthusiast! He hardly ever stops!

Tomorrow….Day 3!

Here we are at a pit stop.
