Jon’s first writing career started in 2005 and lasted until 2012, when, during a period that combined divorce, unemployment, bankruptcy, and a child custody battle, he became homeless and lived on the street for a time. Since the beginning of 2024, Jon has begun his second writing career.
2005 – 2012: Jon published books and short stories that exist in both print and eBook form.
2024 – present: Jon publishes serialized fiction on Tapas.io. One of the great things about the Tapas platform is that Jon can offer his books completely for FREE since Tapas compensates authors with a percentage of ad revenue. Readers can financially support the author simply by subscribing to series and liking chapters.
Jon’s very first book in 2005 (see below) introduced a world of costumed heroes and villains, the Smerdiverse. These adventures ran until 2012. In 2024, this series returns readers to the Smerdiverse. Time has passed. Many things have changed. Velocity Girl is now in her mid-thirties, married, with a teenager. Smerd the p’ckit dragon is still pretty much the same, though.
George was supposed to be a wizard. The son of a great noble of the Society of Sorcerers, his life had already been planned out, until he failed the entrance exam to the Magic College. He leaves his homeland to find a new life, even if he had to embrace the new and dangerous knowledge known as….science. This series supports the setting for “Labyrinths & Laboratories”, a gamification system for high school and middle school science classrooms.
What’s a universe of costumed heroes & villains without a team? “Pocket Protectors: Heroes & Dragons” is the team book for the universe from the Velocity Girl and Smerd books.
Ishi Mishimoto, though high-born to a clan of samurai blood, had several older brothers ahead of him who would be the ones, not him, to have to worry about the responsibility of the future, or so he thought. When his maternal grandfather’s will arrives from the far isle of Wayan, appointing Ishi the inheritor of his maternal grandfather’s estate and title, Ishi leaves home to do the one thing he never wanted to do, to be a samurai. In his journeys, he meets a very small, very special ally.

She soon discovers that there is something very different about the other sex robots that were produced after her, something very different, maybe even something sinister.
In “Ready to Rumble”, Velocity Girl has more experience than before and meets some new Smerdiverse characters in this exciting sequel.
“Shadows of Destiny” is the third novelized adventure of Velocity Girl. This book is the first appearance of Smerd in the Smerdiverse.
“Smerd’s Book of ABC’s” was nominated for the Golden Duck Award in 2007. Take a tour of Smerd’s pocket dimension and see his dragon treasures from A to Z.
In the follow-up to “Smerd’s Books of ABC’s”, Smerd’s fellow p’ckit dragons get introduced, including his girlfriend Roxie.
Today’s Smerdiverse Enterainment product of the day is “The Trouble with Trulks”. This was Jon Klement’s first foray into authoring fantasy instead of the comic book hero genre.
“Metahumans vs. Werewolves” is an anthology with a Jon Klement official Smerdiverse Heroes story, “The Skinchanger”, written with Native American cultural consultation by Windsong Levitch to make a true skin walker character rather than a pop culture stereotype werewolf. The result puts the costumed heroes of the Smerdiverse in a race against time to save a young girl.
This steampunk anthology contains the first ever Dixie Sargent story. Dixie Sargent is a character named after and inspired by the author’s mother who would tell stories of growing up on a farm in Iowa as a little girl in the days before electricity made it that far out into the country to reach her father’s (the author’s grandfather’s) farm. Meet Dixie in this, her first story, before she has her further adventures in “Dixie Sargent and the Aluminum Grass Fields of Venus”.
